6th Urban Street Symposium

6th Urban Street Symposium

  • The next edition of the Urban Street Symposium series, the 6th Urban Street Symposium, is scheduled to take place in conjunction with the 6th International Symposium on Highway Geometric Design (ISHGD) in the summer of 2022.
  • Originally scheduled for the summer of 2020, COVID-related restrictions have made it necessary to reschedule the Symposium. Planning is currently underway for the 6th Symposium, to be held in June 2022 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
  • The 6th Symposium is organized and co-sponsored by:
  • The call for abstracts has been released.  Here are some key features to keep in mind as you prepare your abstracts for submission:
    • For each abstract selected for presentation, the author(s) will prepare and submit a paper in advance of the Symposium.
    • Symposium presentation modes may include poster, podium, and workshop sessions.
    • The original abstract submission deadline has passed, but due to the delay for rescheduling the symposium, the abstract deadline will be reopened; details will be announced on the ISHGD website.  Abstracts must be submitted in English, and must not exceed 250 words.  Visit the ISHGD website for more information on details and deadlines.
    • The scope of the Symposium includes topics related to either geometric design research or practice.  Within this scope, abstracts may be based on topics such as: urban street design; freeways and interchanges; intersection design, control, and operations; access management; accommodating all users; effects of automated/connected vehicles on design; and work zone design.  A full list of topics is provided on the ISHGD website.
    • Papers submitted to the 2020 ISHGD Featuring the 6th Urban Street Symposium are expected to be made available through electronic means such as a compendium on the ISHGD and/or USS websites, to facilitate information sharing and technology transfer.  Although papers will be reviewed for presentation at the symposia, this review may not be as rigorous as that required of some professional journals, and so symposia papers are not considered to be formally published.  Thus, authors may submit their papers to other professional and refereed journals for subsequent publication.
  • We will be adding more details to this website as they are finalized and made available.
